Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) is a condition caused by a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. This fluid buildup does not increase pressure on the brain.
Symptoms: NPH causes cognitive decline and urination incontinence. It will also affect an individuals gait which includes a wider stance and shuffling while walking.
Risk Factors: Head injuries, brain surgeries, hemorrhaging around the brain, and meningitis and other brain infections.
Prognosis: Early interventions including physical therapy and shunting can improve symptoms, but delaying treatment will lead to permanent issues.
