The Dementia Series: Alzheimer's Disease

Updated: Nov 6

Alzheimer's Disease was first identified by Dr. Alois Alzheimer in 1906. It is the most commonly diagnosed dementia-related illness. In fact, 60-80% of dementia cases are due to Alzheimer's.

First Symptom: is usually short-term memory loss.

Other Symptoms: changes to hearing and vision, language difficulties (aphasia), changes in moods, and difficulty with logic and reasoning.

Risk Factors: age (most people are 65+ when diagnosed); family history; head injuries; poor diet, sleep, and exercise habits; and type 2 diabetes.

A group exercise class takes place outdoors.
Regular Exercise is believed to help prevent Alzheimer's disease and improve symptoms once diagnosed.
