Lewy Body Dementia was first identified by the neurologist Friedrich Lewy. Lewy Bodies are abnormally folded proteins that find their way into the brain.

First Symptom: Disruption in REM sleep. Individuals will act out their dreams, toss and turn in bed, and even fall out of the bed while asleep.

Other Symptoms: hallucinations and fluctuations in awareness. Loss of memory is not usually associated with Lewy Body Dementia causing the possibility of dementia to be overlooked by family and providers.

Risk Factors: age, vascular health, and exposure to toxins such as pesticides and jet fuel exhaust.

A pesticide sprayer is held in someone's hand.
Exposure to pesticides and other toxins can cause Lewy Body Dementia.
