Dementia, caregiver Stress, & Other Geriatric Issues
Geriatric services can be found throughout various medical treatment specialties. Often times, the geriatric population is defined as 65 years and older, although individual providers may set other age limits to their practice such as 55 and older. Regardless, seniors benefit greatly when services are specialized to their unique needs.
Issues unique to seniors such as dementia can bring stress to the individual, their families, and their caregivers. Finding help with these issues can also add to the stress. Navigating behaviors and mood swings from dementia, nursing home placement, and legal paperwork can be frustrating. Depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and other issues also commonly found in younger adults still have unique, underlying causes that are better resolved by geriatric-focused care.
